It’s the final countdown!

The induction is scheduled for Wednesday. A week from today. That’s next week. Wow.

38 weeks….

I don’t have anything very interesting to write about, so here is a 38 week shot. Wonder how much longer?

Nope, same answer

Doctor today said that they will check to see how things are looking “there” on Tuesday of next week. If things are progressing, then they’ll talk to us about scheduling an induction between the 3rd and 10th of November.

HOWEVER, (this is one of my more favorite doctors at the practice) he did let me know that it wasn’t like we don’t have any choice in the matter. The bottom line is, given the baby and BP look good, then I can wait it out a bit longer…but they really wouldn’t want me to go more than about 5 days over.

Would you like some whine with that?

Well, I am writing this post on the computer that still works in this house. Why does everything have to start breaking at once…and seriously, right now??! The hard drive on the mac died, dry rotted tires on car, J’s crank on his bike broke in half, washer on the fritz, very $$ last vet appointment…and while I’m on a bit of a whine let me just get this out of my system all at once….I’m achey all over my joints hurt real bad and am fat and bloated even my toes hurt and don’t even get me started on the congestion hungry want to eat but can’t eat too much even dessert is losing its appeal and baths not as effective as they used to be i’m itchy but omg did the doctor mention that they might want to induce me soon how the hell am i going to be ready for that?

Whew.

On the bright side, the weather is just spectacular and I’m enjoying being home. I have been knocking things off the ol’ to do list and it feels great. I don’t have to get moving too soon although I’ve been out of the house by 8am both Monday and Tuesday. I am also happy to report that, at this moment, there are NO dirty laundry items in the house. I don’t think that has ever happened before.

Halfway through week 37 already. Keep meaning to take pictures, keep procrastinating. However, I obviously am and look big enough to go anytime. We went out for pizza and I could not fit into the booth so we had to take up an entire table for 6. And, proceeded to get a dirty look from the dad when a party of 5 tried to fit into a booth. On Monday while at the grocery store, a guy turned and looked at me, whistled, and said “Woo, any time now. Must have been a looong summer girl.” Ha!

The doctor yesterday said the baby looks good, my iron is too low (but oh goodie, they have iron supplements that smell like vanilla and have a stool softner in them I’m so lucky), and casually mentioned that most likely, they will not let me go over the due date. And, casually threw out the word induction…possibly at 39.5 weeks. I see a different doctor tomorrow, so we’ll see if I get a different answer.

Ready, set….

….and now we’re just waiting for the GO signal. Besides some of the little details, decorating and such, I think we are pretty prepared for the baby.

The shower was awesome. The pictures, unfortunately, are not. The camera must not have been cooperating so we only have a couple that are somewhat in focus. We had wings, hamburgers, hotdogs, many side dishes, a mini keg of beer, and plenty of football on in the background. We were given really nice gifts! It was exactly what I wanted….a relaxed, co-ed, non-babyish get together. We sat on the deck until after 11pm, which is REALLY late for me these days. The entire weekend was perfect. J’s mom and sister flew in, we had a fabulous dinner on Friday night and a good time on Saturday.

And…the furniture finally came in last weekend along with the rocker from Target. I heart Target…a lot…like enough that if I could only shop one place again ever, Target would be it. Target has a magical effect on J. Its like he’s almost happy to be spending money when he’s there. I’m painting some frames and shelves in bright colors to put up along with the tree next. I should have some spare time after this week.

And, no post would be complete without a doctor update. Today’s appointment was the big 36 week check up. I didn’t realize that I was going in for the full Monty today. But, I’m sure I’ll get used to that. Non stress test was good, tested again for multiple STDs and HIV (they test you twice for all of this stuff in NC!), strep test, and the highly anticipated internal exam. If TMI is not your thing, skip to the next paragraph……..I’m a fingertip dilated and starting to soften so yay me. It doesn’t really mean anything other than I’ll have a baby sometime most likely within the next six weeks. I’m “due” in four and probably won’t be going over six.

In other news, this is my last week of work!

Furniture finally coming!

The furniture is finally arriving tomorrow and I’m excited to see it….

We also had our shower last Saturday and it was awesome. I’ll post updates when I have a few minutes in the evening when not falling asleep….

And, the twice weekly doc appointments are still going well. They have seen some contractions on this weeks’ non-stress tests. That doesn’t mean anything right now, but I’m still secretly dreaming of a last week of October baby….

Not stressed

Had the first of many non-stress tests for the baby today. It’s not so bad as far as doctor appointments go. They put me in a really cushy, comfortable reclining chair, leaned it allllll the way back, brought me ice cold water, and dimmed the lights after I was hooked up to the monitor. I got to listen to his heartbeat (which is a really comforting sound) for about 15-20 minutes and every time I felt him move, I had to click a button. The doctor that came in afterwards was really nice and took time to explain what they were looking for. He gave me an emphatic “Baby looks happy and healthy, we’ll see you Thursday” and I was on my way. It’s hard to believe that I have at least 12 more doctor appointments until I reach 40 weeks. The invasive appointments start in about two more weeks. Sounds so fun.

In other news, I had to hand over the pretend baby to Justin last night because I could not get it successfully dressed. I somehow managed to put the shirt back on inside out and backwards and left a pretty good amount of plumbers crack showing when I put the diaper on. That was pretty funny. I think it worried him a little.

34 weeks!

Random ramblings from pregnancy brain

Week 33! I’d have all these great recent belly pictures to post from my uncle and aunt’s visit except that I forgot to put the memory card in the camera. But, I was happily snapping away anyway. In my mind, they were really cute pictures.  I also tried to stamp an addressed envelope but put the stamp on upside down and on the wrong side. After checking where my doctor’s appointment was, I got in my car and promptly drove all the way across town to the wrong doctor office. You can see where I’m going with this.

Ok, so this week in my doctor chronicles…our baby is completely average! According to the ultrasound, he is weighing in at 5 pounds which is the 50th percentile for this week. His heartbeat was around 149, he’s head down, (and will hopefully stay that way), and things are still looking good. And, I get to go back to the doctor on Monday. And, Thursday. And, every Monday and Thursday until I deliver. That’s not normal, but I’m considered a high risk pregnancy so we get lots of attention.

We got a couple pictures today which really didn’t show too much.

This picture is his face. I have not seen a face shot yet that I could either make any detail out of, or didn’t kind of freak me out a bit. I can’t wait to see that sweet little face in person. I’m going to stare at it for hours.

Baby's face

Baby's face

And, for the third time…it’s a boy! The only picture that you can really make anything out of. Apparently, his testes have descended. He’s going to hate these pictures later in life.

It's a boy again

Still a boy

In other randomness….

My knuckles hurt every morning. And this is “normal”.

I’ve developed an unhealthy obsession with Bolthouse Farms Pure Protein drink.

And now for a thought on big underwear

Don’t do it. Do not ever give in to the urge to try and find comfort in an undergarment that is bigger than your face. It is not worth it.

At a certain point in pregnancy, your belly gets bigger…and rounder…and some of the maternity clothes that you thought would NEVER get tight begin to turn on you, and roll under your belly. Especially any of those “demi panel” pants. Well, underwear do the same thing. So I thought I’d get some “maternity bikini underwear”. They would be big enough to cover my belly a little, wouldn’t roll down, and I’d be so comfy I wouldn’t care that they were big.

WRONG

I cried. My husband rarely sees tears in my eyes. I was sad, and felt like I might as well stop putting on makeup, put on some mom jeans, and call it done. Feeling defeated, I washed my big underwear and shed a couple more tears as I got dressed for work. “At least I’ll be comfortable”, I thought.

By lunch time that day, I felt that familiar feeling of an article of clothing bunching up. It could not have been the pants, they were the secret fit, major belly coverage kind. Turns out that the big underwear had rolled under, too! Except even worse…because big underwear has double the fabric to roll under than normal underwear.

I threw the last pair in the trash today. They do not get to be recycled as dust clothes, either.

…And the results are in…

Chocolate ganache cake…

Raspberry parfait…

Goodberry’s frozen custard (Orange cream is next Tuesday’s flavor of the day)…

Hot fudge..with or without the accompanying ice cream….

Cake made in honor of me at the baby shower….

ARE ALL THINGS I CAN STILL INDULGE IN!

I passed the three hour glucose tolerance test and do not have gestational diabetes. Yay me!

In other news, the “Preparing for Childbirth” classes started tonight much to my surprise. According to the schedule, they were supposed to start next week. But, September 21st is not a Monday so I’m glad I called and found out they meant TODAY. It seems like every week the baby hype richter scale is a little highter…doctor appointments, pediatrician orientation, birthing class, baby showers, planning for the baby shower…all very exciting.

31 weeks!
